Diaspora in Focus

The Great ¡°K.¡±

South Korea has finally become an advanced nation. Citizens crushed a coup with their bare hands. BTS's Arirang echoed across a glowing Gwanghwamun Square. The fermented scent of Korean food captivated the world. It exports high-end semiconductors and weapons of war, setting the stock market ablaze in red.

Yet, reflection by this Great ¡°K¡± is truly rare.

Some demand answers. They are the overseas Korean adoptees.

¡°Why did such a great country abandon us?¡±

October 2, 2025. President Lee Jae-myung apologized to overseas adoptees. However, policy and systemic reforms remain a distant reality. Instead, filmmakers worldwide have stepped forward through cinema. Their fierce efforts pierce through this year's ¡°Diaspora in Focus.¡± It is no coincidence that so many films about adoption arrived this year. The more South Korea basks in the global spotlight, the more our past sins surface as grotesque contradictions.

Now, facing these films, what answer will we offer? This is only the beginning. So, listen closely to the questions of those whose births were erased. Face the hearts of those left wandering the world. (Ksan)
