As in the title, the film records a few days of Médéric, a petit bourgeois in France who is nobody¡¯s hero. The film tells the story of gender/love of the protagonist that is set in the terror that occurs in Clermont-Ferrand, introducing Isadora who is a married prostitute and Selim, an Arab gay teenager. In the form of a casual melodrama, the film deals with the issues of race, gender, refugees, multiculturalism, prejudice of society, sympathy, and tolerance around them. Just like in our daily lives, unpredictable characters appear and sitcom-like anecdotes take place in an eccentric and laughable way, and the film succeeds in taking the heavy topics lightly. The audience can see and laugh with the timidity, suspicion, and caring displayed by various neighbors in an apartment building ¡ª the film gives names to all the characters ¡ª and eventually we can witness Médéric being a hero among the neighbors by ¡®failing¡¯ a heroic act. This is the latest film of Alain Guiraudie who specializes in the casual depiction of human typicality and duality. (LEE Seungmin)
