Lionel squanders his fortune searching for rare animals. He continues until he wins the recognition of the club members that ignore his presence. On receiving a letter from the one who claims to have witnessed Bigfoot, he travels to North America to gather evidence and finally meets Bigfoot. It turns out Bigfoot was seeking help to find others of his species. The idea that finding other Bigfoots would eventually lead to the lost world Shangri-La excites Lionel, who nicknames Bigfoot ¡®Mr. Link¡¯ and departs on an adventure with him. The adventure of Lionel and Bigfoot follow the conventional self-search narrative. However, the self that Lionel discovers makes us rethink about our stance towards treating an unfamiliar other. In particular, the cinematic gaze into the people of Shangri-La and the subversion of gender projected on Bigfoot makes one clearly feel what type of world the film seeks to recover.
