제14회 디아스포라영화제 [아카데미]14th Diaspora Film Festival [ACADEMY] [강연] 증인이 아닌 사람의 증언: 디아스포라적 말하기에 대하여 말런 푸엔테스의 〈본톡 추도사〉에서 이름 없는 화자는 그의 증조부가 겪은 충격적인 일에 대해 들려준다. 필리핀 루손섬 북부 산악지대 이고로트족 출신인 그는 1904년 미국 세인트루이스 세계박람회에 관람용으로 마련된 원주민 마을에서 백인들에게 전시된 이들 가운데 하나다. 그때 전시된 이들은 이에 대해 증언을 남기지 못하고 죽어갔다. 그렇다면 증언은 아예 불가능한 것일까? 증언은 당사자에게만 속한 권리인가? 이 질문은 온갖 시청각 미디어로 매일 같이 전 세계에 중계되는 진정 끔찍한 동시대적 박람회, 즉 전쟁 가운데서 증언 없이 전시되고 죽어가는 이들이 점점 늘어가는 현재의 상황과도 무관치 않다. A native of the Igorot people from the mountainous northern region of Luzon in the Philippines, he was among those exhibited to white audiences in a native village created as a spectacle for the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. Those exhibited at the time passed away without being able to leave behind any testimony of the experience. Does this, then, make testimony impossible? Is the right to testify exclusive only to those directly involved? This question is deeply relevant to our current reality, where an increasing number of people are exhibited and die without testimony amidst war?a truly horrific, contemporary fair broadcast to the entire world daily through all forms of audiovisual media. 제14회 디아스포라영화제 [아카데미]14th Diaspora Film Festival [ACADEMY] [토크] 입양 생존자, 돌아오다 한국 출신의 해외 입양인들은 불편한 진실 하나와 마주하게 된다. 자신들의 입양이 실은 ‘위장 고아 거래’ 또는 ‘가족 해체 사업’에 지나지 않았다는 사실. 시간이 흘러 그들 당사자들이 ‘입양 생존자’가 되어 한국으로 돌아온다. 제인 정 트렌카. 1972년 한국에서 출생하여 생후 6개월 만에 미국 미네소타의 백인 가정으로 입양된 제인 정 트렌카는 『피의 언어』, 『덧없는 환영들』 등의 자전적 이야기를 쓴 작가다. 현재 인천에서 보험설계사로 일하고 있다. 전미경 그리고 이경애. 1970년대 독일로 입양된 두 여성은 이제 엄마가 되어 한국으로 돌아온다. 다큐멘터리 영화 〈당신에게〉에 그들의 내밀한 이야기가 담겨 있다. 〈당신에게〉 상영 후 제인 정 트렌카 작가와 함께 토크를 진행한다. 동년배였던 세 여성의 다른 삶이 독일과 미국 각각에서 어떻게 만나고 갈라질까. 각자의 이야기 위에 서로의 이야기가 포개어진다. 사회 이종찬에세이스트. 대학(원) 영문과에서 문예비평 및 문화이론을 공부하고, 비판적 문화연구 집단 ‘문화사회연구소’에서 활동했다. 경계의 사유로부터 촉발된 문학과 예술의 사회적 존재론에 관심이 많다. 대표 저작으로 「재난, 그리고 절규의 공동체」, 「계란말이가 아니라 닭알구이다」, 「디아스포라와 죽음」 등이 있으며 『서경식 다시 읽기』, 『1990년대 문화 키워드 20』 등을 함께 썼다. 참석 제인 정 트렌카1972년 서울에서 태어났으며, 국제 입양을 통해 한국을 떠난 입양인이자 작가이다. 회고록 『피의 언어』와 『덧없는 환영들』을 썼으며, 신선영, 줄리아 오파라와 함께 인종 간 입양을 다룬 선집 『인종간 입양의 사회학』을 공동 편집했다. 전홍기혜, 이경은 박사와 함께 온라인 신문 『프레시안』에 연재된 기획특집 「한국 해외입양 65년」을 공동으로 진행했으며, 이는 2017년 제20회 국제앰네스티 언론상을 수상했고, 이후 『아이들 파는 나라』(2019)로 출간되었다. 현재 그는 인천에서 보험설계사로 일하고 있다. -[TALK] Adoption Survivors, the Return Overseas adoptees from Korea are being confronted with a disturbing truth: that their adoptions were, in fact, nothing more than a “disguised orphan trade” or a “family dissolution business.” As time has passed, these individuals have returned to Korea as “adoption survivors.”Jane Jeong Trenka. Born in Korea in 1972 and adopted by a white family in Minnesota at just six months old, Jane Jeong Trenka is an author of autobiographical works such as The Language of Blood and Fugitive Visions. She is currently working as an insurance agent in Incheon.Jeon Mikyung and Lee Kyungae. Two women who were adopted into Germany in the 1970s return to Korea, now as mothers themselves. Their intimate stories are captured in the documentary film To You.Following the screening of To You, a talk will be held with writer Jane Jeong Trenka. How did the lives of these three women of the same generation converge and diverge across Germany and the United States? Their individual stories will be layered one atop another. Moderator LEE Jong-chanEssayist. He studied literary criticism and cultural theory in the Department of English Literature at university, and was an active member of the critical cultural studies group Center for Cultural Society. He is particularly interested in the social ontology of literature and art that emerge from reflections on the notion of boundaries. His representative works include “Disaster, and the Community of Screams,” and “Diaspora and Death.” He also co-authored several books, such as Rereading Suh Kyung-sik, and 20 Cultural Keywords of the 1990s. Panelist Jane Jeong TRENKABorn in 1972 in Seoul, Jane Jeong Trenka is an internationally adopted Korean and the author of two memoirs, The Language of Blood: A Memoir and Fugitive Visions: An Adoptee’s Return to Korea. Together with Sun Yung Shin and Julia Chinyere Oparah, she co-edited the anthology Outsiders Within: Writing on Transracial Adoption. She collaborated with Jeon Hong Kihye and Dr. Lee Kyung Eun on the series “65 Years of Overseas Adoption,” published in the online newspaper Pressian, which won the 20th Amnesty International Media Award in 2017, and was published as The Baby-Selling Country. 제14회 디아스포라영화제 [아카데미]14th Diaspora Film Festival [ACADEMY] [강연] 우주와 디아스포라[Lecture] Space and Diaspora ‘우주와 디아스포라’는 우리에게는 여전히 아직 오지 않은 미래로 남아 있다. SF와 상상의 영역이다. 하지만 국가 단위의 달과 화성 탐사 및 기지 건설 계획이 진행되고 있고 민간 영역에서도 일론 머스크를 중심으로 달과 화성으로의 탐사를 넘어서 이주를 기획하고 있다. 우주는 아직 디아스포라의 대상이 아니지만 미래의 디아스포라를 이야기할 때 중요한 한 부분을 차지할 가능성이 높다. 이 강연에서는 SF와 상상 속 우주 디아스포라를 살펴본 다음 실제로 기획하고 계획하고 있는 달과 화성으로의 유인 탐사 계획과 화성 이주 프로그램에 대해서 알아본다. 달과 화성으로의 디아스포라 이후 앞으로 생겨날 새로운 달인류와 화성인류의 정체성과 삶의 양식에 대해서 상상해 본다. 지구인류와 달인류/화성인류 사이에 생길 수 있는 분쟁과 협력에 대해서도 상상해 본다. However, lunar and Martian exploration, along with plans for base construction, are already underway at the national level. In the private sector, figures like Elon Musk are planning not just exploration, but actual migration to the Moon and Mars. While space is not yet a subject of diaspora, it is highly likely to become a significant element when discussing the diaspora of the future.In this lecture, we will first examine the concept of space diaspora through the lens of Sci-Fi and imagination. Then, we will look into the manned exploration missions and Mars migration programs currently being designed and planned. We will envision the identities and lifestyles of the “Lunar humans” and “Martian humans” who will emerge following this extraterrestrial diaspora. Finally, we will explore the potential conflicts and cooperation that may arise between “Earth humans” and these new lunar and martian humans.
